The Jack Hyde Memorial rally is a maritime tradition that brings together the community in celebration
of nautical skills, teamwork, and a tribute to Tacoma’s maritime heritage. Held in conjunction with the
Gig Harbor Invitational navigation rally, this exciting event honors the memory of former Tacoma
mayor, log racer and Ruston Way advocate, Jack Hyde, while showcasing the navigation prowess
and log racing skills of area boaters.
Totem Yacht Club has been the exclusive sponsor of the Hyde contest since 2024 (formerly hosted
by Tacoma Yacht Club), and participants from near and far gather to compete in this unique nautical
contest in and on the waters surrounding Commencement Bay.
The weekend activities include a Friday evening reception and casual dinner at Totem’s clubhouse,
rally competition on Saturday and an awards dinner at Gig Harbor Yacht Club Saturday evening.
Members of each club are invited to both evening events to encourage and celebrate their respective
contestants.
