The Des Moines Yacht Club South Sound Opening is an annual event that marks the official start of the boating season in the South Sound region of Puget Sound, Washington. Organized and sponsored by the Des Moines Yacht Club, this multi-day celebration typically takes place in May and features a formal flag-raising ceremony, social gatherings, dinner and dancing, and a traditional blessing of the fleet.

The event is open to the public and includes a city proclamation recognizing the occasion. Each year features a unique theme—recent themes have included “Pirates of the South Sound” and Elvis-inspired celebrations. Activities span a weekend and often include a car show, social hours, themed dinners, live entertainment, and a Past Commodores Pancake Breakfast.
